Manuel and his wife, Sara Rosenfeld, were married by a Justice of the Peace on April 8, 2000
I was born in Sao Miguel, one of nine Portuguese Islands of the Arquipelago of the Azores located approximately 950 miles west of the coast of mainland Portugal. I still have family living in the Azores and Portugal and visit them frequently.
I immigrated to the United States in 1976 and have been very involved with the Portuguese-speaking community in many different roles. I created and produced several local community access television programs from 1990 to 2002. The shows were broadcast on the cable channels of Somerville, Cambridge, Medford and Peabody. I have been a member and also employed by MAPS (Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers) in the past. I am a member of the Mystic View Task Force, a nonprofit organization that performs public advocacy activities in Somerville regarding the Assembly Square area and related issues.
I enjoy my role as a Justice of the Peace and especially love working with couples in preparation for the happiest day of their lives. Prior to becoming a Justice, I helped another Justice with translation for multi-lingual weddings. In 2004, I was sworn in and have since performed weddings in my client's homes, in outdoor spaces from the Boston Common to Powderhouse Park, in local churches and halls, and even in my own home. I especially enjoy helping couples craft their wedding vows and work with them when multiple languages are spoken so everyone can be be involved and understand the importance of the words.
To date I have officiated at several hundred weddings.
You may reach me online or call 617-967-0763 or 617-666-2316 anytime to discuss your wedding plans. I look forward to being part of your special day.
